Love the outdoors? Enjoy meeting new people and sharing your love of history? Become a part of history! Learn to become a volunteer conductor and lead groups along a simulated Underground Railroad experience hike through fields, woods and across streams to the historic Sandy Spring. Learn various techniques that people escaping slavery would have used to elude pursuers, find water and food, and find their way. Learn about the history of the Underground Railroad both locally and in the U.S. and fascinating true stories of perils, escapes and captures. FREE training available. SSL hours are also available for students who complete training and are able to provide a minimum number of hikes throughout the year. [Pre-registration for training is required. Walk-ins will not be accepted.]

Free, two-part training conducted in late March and April. Must complete training and be able to conduct tours at least 6 times annually, April through November. Exact schedule arranged through program supervisor. Training held at Parkside Headquarters and Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park.
