Brookside Gardens hosts an incredible live butterfly exhibit each year in our Conservatory, April through September. North American, South American and Asian Butterfly species are featured in this dynamic exhibit and we are seeking volunteer Arrivals Agent and Flight Attendants to help support our staff with running the show.Arrivals Agent are stationed just outside the exhibit and are responsible for greeting visitors and processing receipts, introducing visitors to the exhibit and coordinating exhibit entry.
Flight Attendants are stationed in the exhibit where they help prevent butterflies from escaping and explain butterfly life cycles and behaviors to our guests. All volunteers need to sign up for only one on-site training date before they can begin. Select the Schedule tab on the Job Details page to view and select a training date. Volunteers will also need to complete an additional online tutorial before on-site training, and will receive the link after they sign up.After succesfully completing the on-site training, volunteers will be able to access the online calendar to schedule their shifts.
Morning shifts are 3.5 hours and afternoon shifts are 4 hours.Student volunteers ages 11-13 may volunteer, but only as a one-on-one team with a registered and trained parent, or adult guardian. We are looking for friendly and outgoing volunteers to engage garden visitors with our mobile plant exlploration cart. We want to enrich our visitor's garden visits with fun hands-on activities and learning experiences, to show them more about the plant world around them. The cart will be moved to different popular plant areas to engage the public. Volunteers are needed during MCPS Spring Break on April 17-19 from 10am-2pm

Volunteers assist with planting and care of a wide variety of ornamental plants, including weeding, pruning, watering, grooming, staking, and deadheading, preparing garden beds, mulching, and general clean-up. This work, while sometimes physically demanding, provides volunteers the opportunity to work with professional horticulture staff, enjoy the appreciation of the Gardens' visitors, and enhance their own knowledge of plants and gardening techniques. We are currently recruiting volunteers for weekday mornings.

Montgomery Parks offers many wonderful programs throughout the year for residents in Montgomery County and beyond. While Park staff and volunteers help run these programs, we also provide support services to individuals with disabilities to encourage their participation in the activities of their choice. Activities can include ice skating, tennis, and a variety of interactive nature and history programs.Inclusion Support Volunteers help us meet this need by modifying activities for individuals with disabilities and facilitating positive social interactions with others.We are currently looking for volunteers to help us with programs located at either an ice rink, a tennis facility, historic site or nature center. A schedule will be worked out with staff, but we are looking for a committment to the duration of the program or season.Volunteers will receive training and placed with programs where and when they are needed.
