Description

Weekend Volunteer Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities. By participating in a volunteer group trail maintenance or construction project you will be helping improve the natural surface trail network for all to enjoy.

The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 years old may volunteer if an adult participates with them. All Volunteer Trail Workdays are SSL approved.

*Weed Warrior for a Day Workdays*

Description

A variety of non-native, invasive plant species are present in Montgomery Parks. By their nature, these plants can take over an area quickly and threaten our native plant communities and the wildlife that depends on them.

Join one of our Weed Warrior workdays to learn how you can help control non-native, invasive plants and preserve the health of our parks! Instruction and tools will be provided. Workdays are held in parks throughout the county and are led by volunteer Weed Warrior Supervisors and/or park staff.

Description

Volunteers are needed at Montgomery County''s First Annual "Active Aging Week Kick Off Event", where residents 50 years old or better will enjoy an afternoon at Brookside Gardens!


Visitor activities will include walking the trails, activity demonstrations and a vendor area.

We need assistance setting up and breaking down the space, monitoring trash & recycling bins, checking in participants and directing them to the various activities. We also need help turning over and modifying our physical activity space for new activities. Volunteers will also help visitors with accessibility.

This will be an outdoor event so we are asking volunteers to dress appropriately for the weather.

Several shifts are available and this activity is SSL Approved!

Description

Help us celebrate Montgomery County's rich farming heritage at one of the prettiest places in Montgomery Parks, the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood!

Visitors to the festival will get to experience what the crafts, games, food and activities where like on a farm from years ago, with help from park staff and volunteers like you!

Training, a delicious lunch, t-shirt and breaks will be provided. This will be outside work, rain or shine (tents will be provided).

We are looking for outgoing and friendly people, and while all jobs are not physically demanding, they all do require the ability to work on uneven ground.

We are also seeking volunteers 18 and older that can become team leaders, who will get more training before the event, so that they can lead activities at the Festival.

Little Bennett Campground is hosting a spooky Haunted Trail this October, and needs volunteers to help it be the scariest place in the woods!

Volunteers will wear costumes and stand at assigned locations and follow a script. Other volunteers will help out behind the scenes.

There will be an orientation before the trail opens to the campground guests.

This is SSL approved.

Volunteers should dress for the weather, and cooler temps in the evening. We are looking for folks to wear costumes -and bring their own flashlights. Wear shoes that can get muddy!

Groups looking for Projects in Parks!

Description

Are you a group leader looking to do some Team Building, have your group give back to the environment, or just them get out in the parks? We can help you with that!

We are always looking from groups like yours to help us with several types of projects in the parks, including Weed Warrioring (removing bad plants so good plants can thrive); Trail Projects (building or restoring natural surface paths); Park Cleanups; Nature Center Projects (can including gardening/mulching/restoring play areas/trails/etc.); Gardening; helping New Trees Survive; Spreading Wood Fiber at Plagrounds and many more.

We will need to know some basic information to set you up with the right project, including:
- Size and ages of group
- When and Where would be convenient for your group
- Any restrictions (need bathrooms, running water on site)
