Join the Neighbors of the Northwest Branch (NNWB) and Montgomery Parks to help clean up the areas around the Northwest Branch Watershed this April in celebration of Earth Month!

April 24, NW Branch SVU, Alderton Rd.All cleanups are pre-approved for SSL hours. Children under 14 years old must have a registered parent/guardian with them. Every individual must pre-register to participate, including parents/guardians.Please review all Covid 19 requirements and CDC guidelines. Current Covid Requirements for Volunteers:All volunteers must submit Montgomery Parks COVID-19 waivers. -When signing up on this site, it will give adults volunteers the option to electronically submit waivers.-Volunteers under 18 years old must print the waiver in the application and have a parent/guardian sign by hand, and submit the form at the cleanup event.Safety/CDC guidelines:- Volunteers must bring and wear a mask- Volunteers must keep AT LEAST 6 feet apart from volunteers outside of their household.- If you are feeling sick or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, do not come to the cleanup.- Wash hands before and after the cleanup.To register for one of these cleanup dates, click the schedule tab, review cleanup details, and click "sign up". Scout troops, corporate groups, student groups, and community organizations can schedule a private group cleanup event. Work with your team to remove trash & litter from our Parks! All groups must follow the current Covid 19 Requirements and Park Safety Guidelines. Group leaders can submit one application on behalf of their group (select "group"). We prefer at least two weeks notice before your cleanup, but as long as you let us know about your project we will do our best to support your efforts! Please keep in mind that groups do need a permit for any group service projects in parks. Current Covid Requirements:All volunteers must submit Montgomery Parks COVID-19 waivers.- Group leaders must have all volunteers submit a signed waiver then compile them and send to Valeria Espinoza.- If you have volunteers under 18 years old, make sure their parent/guardian signs by hand.Maintain group sizes at 10 volunteers per adult supervisor, with a maximum of 30 total participants.- Your volunteers must pre-register with you (no drop-ins).- You may have a check-in sheet that only you touch or use a mobile device.- Send us your final volunteer rosterSafety/CDC guidelines - Volunteers must bring and wear a mask- Volunteers must keep AT LEAST 6 feet apart from volunteers outside of their household.- Anyone feeling sick or in recent contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, may not come to the cleanup.Organize YOUR Group Cleanup!What we'll need:1. Are you a group leader looking to do some Team Building, have your group give back to the environment, or just them get out in the parks? We can help you with that! We are always looking from groups like yours to help us with several types of projects in the parks, including Weed Warrioring (removing bad plants so good plants can thrive); Trail Projects (building or restoring natural surface paths); Park Cleanups; Nature Center Projects (can including gardening/mulching/restoring play areas/trails/etc.); Gardening; helping New Trees Survive; Spreading Wood Fiber at Plagrounds and many more.Contact our office by applying to this job, or just give us a call at 301-495-2504.We will need to know some basic information to set you up with the right project, including:- Size and ages of group- When and Where would be convenient for your group- Any restrictions (need bathrooms, running water on site)- Group Leader contact information (and anyone who needs to be copied on any correspondence.Thanks - we look forward to working with your group on setting up a great project in the Parks!(Make sure you fill out the GROUP application - it's much shorter!)

Weekend Volunteer Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities. By participating in a volunteer group trail maintenance or construction project you will be helping improve the natural surface trail network for all to enjoy. The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 year olds may volunteer if an adult family member participates with them. All Volunteer Trail Workdays are SSL approved.*Due to Covid-19 virus group volunteer trail workdays are postponed until further notice. A variety of non-native, invasive plant species are present in Montgomery Parks. By their nature, these plants can take over an area quickly and threaten our native plant communities and the wildlife that depends on them.Join one of our Weed Warrior workdays to learn how you can help control non-native, invasive plants and preserve the health of our parks! Instruction and tools will be provided. Workdays are held in parks throughout the county and are led by volunteer Weed Warrior Supervisors and/or park staff.
