We are looking for Volunteers interested in becoming trail stewards by performing quarterly trail inspections (plus after major storm events) and light maintenance work on an assigned segment of natural surface trail in Montgomery Parks. Your trail inspection reports and light maintenance work alerts us of safety and maintenance needs and improves the trail system.

A variety of non-native, invasive plant species are present in Montgomery Parks. By their nature, these plants can take over an area quickly and threaten our native plant communities and the wildlife that depends on them.Join one of our Weed Warrior workdays to learn how you can help control non-native, invasive plants and preserve the health of our parks! Instruction and tools will be provided. Workdays are held in parks throughout the county and are led by volunteer Weed Warrior Supervisors and/or park staff. We often ask the scout to find a suitable project. Choose a park location that is convenient to you and explore the area to see what amenities you can help create or restore. Locust Grove Nature Center is looking for a handy person to perform general outdoor maintenance duties around the buildings, trails, and the formal gardens on site. Help us keep the Nature Center Grounds beautiful for visiting people and wildlife alike!Examples of tasks include small repairs, installing new exhibits, painting outdoor play elements, clearing walkways and trails, mulching gardens, and other odd jobs!The right person for this job enjoys working independently outdoors, and has a keen eye for details. Some carpentry and/or landscaping experience preferred. Little training is provided.

Cabin John Ice Rink provides a variety of ice skating camp programs for the public during the summer and selected holidays. CIT volunteers help prepare for skating camps, work with children and provide additional support throughout the camp session. Adults and children can learn to skate or improve their skills through the group lessons we offer. Weekend Volunteer Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities. By participating in a volunteer group trail maintenance or construction project you will be helping improve the natural surface trail network for all to enjoy. The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 years old may volunteer if an adult participates with them. All Volunteer Trail Workdays are SSL approved.Volunteer Trail Workdays will return in March 2020.
