Weekend Volunteer Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities-trails. By participating in volunteer group trail maintenance or construction project you will be helping improve the natural surface trail network for all to enjoy. The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 years old may volunteer if an adult participates with them. Friendly helpers are needed to hand out crayons and 'Eye Spy' sheets at our Eye Spy Train ride in Cabin John Regional Park.The train runs every weekend in April plus Spring Break, April 17-22. There will be two shifts each day: 9:45am - 1:45pm, and 1:45 - 5:45pm. Please do not sign-up for many shifts unless you are certain you can commit to coming to ALL of them!Volunteers must be 14 or older. This activity is outdoors and Student Service Learning approved. Locust Grove Nature Center is looking for volunteer camp counselors that are passionate about sharing their love of the great outdoors!
As a volunteer camp counselor, you'll assist staff in supervising children and leading activities. It's a great way to earn SSL hours while gaining experience working with kids and it's a lot of fun!

We often ask the scout to find a suitable project. Choose a park location that is convenient to you and explore the area to see what amenities you can help create or restore. CIT volunteers help prepare for skating camps, work with children and provide additional support throughout the camp session. Adults and children can learn to skate or improve their skills through the group lessons we offer. Ice Skating Instructional Assistants provide the extra hands necessary to provide high quality instruction and improve student success and enthusiasm for this wonderful sport. Under the supervision of the Cabin John Ice Skating Director, Instructional Assistants are assigned to help Group Lesson Instructors in the "Learn to Skate" program, which include lessons, clinics, and camps. We are looking for volunteers that can commit to an entire skating session season.
Montgomery Parks offers many wonderful programs throughout the year for residents in Montgomery County and beyond. While Park staff and volunteers help run these programs, we also provide support services to individuals with disabilities to encourage their participation in the activities of their choice. Activities can include ice skating, tennis, and a variety of interactive nature and history programs.Inclusion Support Volunteers help us meet this need by modifying activities for individuals with disabilities and facilitating positive social interactions with others.We are currently looking for volunteers to help us with programs located at either an ice rink, a tennis facility, historic site or nature center. A schedule will be worked out with staff, but we are looking for a committment to the duration of the program or season.Volunteers will receive training and placed with programs where and when they are needed. Volunteer gardeners do a variety of tasks from early spring to late fall in the gardens of the nature center where wildflowers, ferns, shrubs, sedges, grasses and trees have been planted to demonstrate what grows naturally in Montgomery County. Gardeners will turn soil, plant, water, weed, trim, apply natural deer repellent, rake and collect seeds. You will have the opportunity to learn about native plants working with the lead gardener. Our gardeners work with others in small groups or independently at least two hours per week.
