We are looking for Volunteers interested in becoming trail stewards by performing quarterly trail inspections (plus after major storm events) and light maintenance work on an assigned segment of natural surface trail in Montgomery Parks. Your trail inspection reports and light maintenance work alerts us of safety and maintenance needs and improves the trail system.

A variety of non-native, invasive plant species are present in Montgomery Parks. By their nature, these plants can take over an area quickly and threaten our native plant communities and the wildlife that depends on them.Join one of our Weed Warrior workdays to learn how you can help control non-native, invasive plants and preserve the health of our parks! Instruction and tools will be provided. Workdays are held in parks throughout the county and are led by volunteer Weed Warrior Supervisors and/or park staff. Brookside Nature Center is once again offering a summer full of week-long day camps for children ages 6 through 10, and we can't do it without the help of volunteers! We are looking for outstanding camp counselors who love being around kids, being outside, and who want to share their love of nature. These teens will take pride in their role as representatives for the Montgomery Parks Department!With camps starting in the middle of June and running until the middle of August, volunteers can sign up for at least two of our 5 different camps. Here's a list of this years' camps and dates, check them out to see if any fit your schedule and interest!: Trail Buddies Camp: June 15 - 19,CIT Camp: July 5 - 10, Treasure Hunter Camp: 13 - 17, Little House in the Big Woods Camp: July 20 - July 24,Naturally Creative Camp - Water and Rocks: August 10 - 14Our mandatory Counselor and Staff Orientation is June 25, from 1 - 4 pm.Volunteer Camp Counselors assist staff throughout the week by helping prepare for each day's activities, supervising the children and leading some activities. Counselors will report to the Senior Camp Counselors and Camp teachers, and volunteer from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm daily. Volunteering as a camp counselor is an ideal way to earn SSL hours while gaining experience working with kids and having lots of fun! Thanks for thinking of Montgomery Parks as a place for your Eagle Scout project! Sometimes we have ideas for potential Eagle projects, but the number of Eagle candidates far outnumbers them. We often ask the scout to find a suitable project. Choose a park location that is convenient to you and explore the area to see what amenities you can help create or restore. Park staff will work with you to review your project proposal prior to approval. We are looking for scouts that are good communicators, stick to a schedule and are hardworkers!

Weekend Volunteer Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities. By participating in a volunteer group trail maintenance or construction project you will be helping improve the natural surface trail network for all to enjoy. The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 years old may volunteer if an adult participates with them. All Volunteer Trail Workdays are SSL approved.Volunteer Trail Workdays will return in March 2020.
