In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Montgomery Parks will be hosting Salsa in the Parks at 3 locations throughout the county the next few weeks. Our guests will be grabbing their dancing shoes and enjoying a night of live music and dancing under the stars! We are looking for volunteers to help with setting up the stage for the band and salsa instructors, greeting people on arrival, providing information about upcoming events, and helping with registration and waivers.The nights we need volunteers are:Sept. 17 - Fairview Road UP, Silver SpringOct. 1 - Brookside Gardens, WheatonOct. 15 - Strawberry Knoll LP, GaithersburgDinner will be provided.This is SSL approved!

Weekend Volunteer Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities. By participating in a volunteer group trail maintenance or construction project you will be helping improve the natural surface trail network for all to enjoy. The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 years old may volunteer if an adult participates with them. A variety of non-native, invasive plant species are present in Montgomery Parks. By their nature, these plants can take over an area quickly and threaten our native plant communities and the wildlife that depends on them.Join one of our Weed Warrior workdays to learn how you can help control non-native, invasive plants and preserve the health of our parks! Instruction and tools will be provided. Workdays are held in parks throughout the county and are led by volunteer Weed Warrior Supervisors and/or park staff. Wheaton Indoor Tennis is proud to partner with ACEing Autism to serve up an amazing tennis curriculum! Directed by our teaching pro, volunteers will be paired with kids on the autism spectrum (ages 6-12 and 13-18). The program helps kids develop coordination, confidence, and social skills through on-court activities that emphasize taking turns, working in teams and following instruction. Volunteers receive training prior to first class. Tennis experience is helpful but not necessary. Must enjoy working with kids and have high energy. Special education background a plus!We are seeking mature 15 year olds/high school freshman and older.Success of this program depends upon consistent pairing of volunteers and participants each week. Thanks for thinking of Montgomery Parks as a place for your Eagle Scout project! Sometimes we have ideas for potential Eagle projects, but the number of Eagle candidates far outnumbers them. We often ask the scout to find a suitable project. Choose a park location that is convenient to you and explore the area to see what amenities you can help create or restore. Park staff will work with you to review your project proposal prior to approval. We are looking for scouts that are good communicators, stick to a schedule and are hardworkers!

Are you a group leader looking to do some Team Building, have your group give back to the environment, or just them get out in the parks? We can help you with that!
