April is Autism Awareness Month!
Montgomery Parks will be hosting an Autism Awareness and Acceptance Event called "Light it up Blue" at the Agricultural History Farm Park to celebrate inclusion and diversity in our community. We are looking for volunteers to assist with various responsibilities including greeters, activity assistance, facepainting, set-up and cleanup for the event!Join us during this special event to help make it a success!SSL approved and food will be provided!Priority will be given to those that can work the full day, but there can be flexibility in schedule for volunteers - to be determined with supervisor prior to event.

Volunteers are needed at Montgomery Park's first All-Anglers Fishing Rodeo. Children of all abilities between the ages of 3-15 will be learning to fish at our accessible pond with a veteran by their side to highlight National Armed Forces Day! We will need assistance setting up and breaking down the site, checking-in participants and directing them to the various activities, teaching children how to fish, plus we will need accessibility and recycling monitors. There will be 2 shifts:7:30 to 9:30 - Set-up helpers; Check-in & Direction helpers8:30 to 12:30 - Fishing experts needed to work with children with physical or developmental disabilities (for those 18 and older); Trash & Recycling Monitors, and take-down helpers; Fish Counters & Weigh-in Monitors.To learn more, click on Duties and Requirements, and then click on Schedule or Calendar to sign-up.**SSL Hours available for students helping with activities other than fishing**

Cabin John Ice Rink provides a variety of ice skating camp programs for the public during the summer and selected holidays. CIT volunteers help prepare for skating camps, work with children and provide additional support throughout the camp session. CIT's are people-oriented and take pride in their role as representatives for the Montgomery County Parks Department.When filling out the application, click on the optional information at the bottom and fill in the availibility section.*Requires Basic Ice Skating Skills*

*Looking for skilled ice skaters only!* Cabin John Ice Rink provide a variety of ice skating programs for the public. Adults and children can learn to skate or improve their skills through the group lessons we offer. Ice Skating Instructional Assistants provide the extra hands necessary to provide high quality instruction and improve student success and enthusiasm for this wonderful sport. Under the supervision of the Cabin John Ice Skating Director, Instructional Assistants are assigned to help Group Lesson Instructors in the "Learn to Skate" program, which include lessons, clinics, and camps. We are looking for volunteers that can commit to an entire skating session season.

Weekend Volunteer Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities. By participating in a volunteer group trail maintenance or construction project you will be helping improve the natural surface trail network for all to enjoy. The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 years old may volunteer if an adult participates with them. All Volunteer Trail Workdays are SSL approved.Volunteer Trail Workdays will return in March 2020.
