They welcome our visitors, provide information, assist park naturalists with projects, and enjoy helping guests learn more about Wheaton Regional Park and Brookside Nature Center. This is a rewarding job for someone who likes to be helpful and learn more about the natural environment!DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Learn and communicate effectively about program offerings and park resources.2. Greet visitors in a friendly and professional manner.3. Correctly answer visitor inquiries or direct them to appropriate staff. 4. Promptly answer telephone calls and take messages for staff when needed.6. Assist with office administrative work, computer work, and program/exhibit preparation as needed.7. Direct and check-in nature program participants.Potential hours:Tuesday - Friday, 10am - 5pm; Saturdays and Sundays, 1-5pm

*This position requires proof of vaccination against Covid 19*Brookside Gardens is a natural place for the community to have its special events, and the Facility Rental Program has several events booked throughout the year. Facility Rental Programs staff support the events by setting up and monitoring the events, but extra help is needed to make sure everything goes smoothly for our event guests!Special Event Monitor Volunteers assist staff indoors and outdoors throughout the year, making the Gardens a great place for our guests to hold a special wedding, anniversary parties, remembrance ceremonies and other events.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Provide Garden Staff presence in the gardens; and/or Visitor Center during the event.2. Monitor event entrances/exits to maintain privacy.3. Monitor the Visitor Center's entrances to allow only the event guests into the event.4. Interact with event and non-event guests to answer questions about the Gardens.5. Direct event guests to the proper garden event space.6. Direct non-event guests temporarily to other garden areas.

Have you always thought of volunteering, or maybe a way to connect with your community? Our Volunteer Hosts are stationed in the Black Hill Visitor Center lobby on weekends, where they welcome and answer questions from the public, check people in for nature programs, assist Nature Center Staff, and answer telephone calls. They may occasionally help with office work, computer work, program preparation, and exhibits. We are looking for volunteer hosts that are people-oriented, enjoy sharing the joys of nature, and would be great representatives for Black Hill Nature Programs and Montgomery Parks!This is a long-term volunteer opportunity and we are looking for someone who can help out for at least 3 months regularly.
