Volunteer Weekend Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities. Weekend trail workdays take place primarily throughout the Spring & Fall seasons.

The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 year old's may volunteer if an adult family member participates with them.

All Volunteer Trail Workdays are SSL approved.

The Montgomery Park's Activation Team is looking for energetic volunteers to be a part of Salsa in the Park. Previous customer service and event experience a plus! Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply for this opportunity.

At the start of the shift, volunteers will be setting up chairs, tables, & decorations as well as assisting vendors in setting up their stations. During, volunteers will help monitor the event by keeping an eye on guest safety as well as cleaning up the event space of trash. Volunteers will be responsible for reporting any necessary information to the on-site Park staff. After the event, volunteers will help break down the event space and pack up Park vehicles.

Volunteers will be given lanyards with name tags so guests can spot them. Dinner will be provided for volunteers at the event (options will vary and communicated via email from Park staff prior to the event).

This opportunity is approved for SSL Hours.

Montgomery Park's is hosting our annual All-Anglers Fishing Rodeo this May! Children of all abilities between the ages of 3-15 will be learning to fish at our accessible pond with veteran volunteers to highlight Military Appreciation Month!

On this special day, volunteers with fishing experience will help children with physical or developmental disabilities learn how to fish. Volunteers will also help with setting up and breaking down the site, greeting participants and directing them to the various activities. We need fish counters & weigh-in monitors as well!

Join Brookside Nature Center staff and other volunteers for a fun morning outdoors while we get our pond in good shape! We'll remove our old floating wetlands from the pond, separate the plants and materials that can be saved, and prepare any remaining wetland plants for re-potting!

Work will involve getting wet and muddy! Please wear closed toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Don't forget water and sunscreen!

For ages 12+. Children under 14 years old must have a registered parent/guardian with them. Students can earn SSL hours by participating in this activity!

2022 Weed Warrior Workdays

A variety of non-native, invasive plant species are present in Montgomery Parks. By their nature, these plants can take over an area quickly and threaten our native plant communities and the wildlife that depends on them.

Join one of our Weed Warrior workdays to learn how you can help control non-native, invasive plants and preserve the health of our parks! Instruction and tools will be provided. Workdays are held in parks throughout the county and are led by volunteer Weed Warrior Supervisors and/or park staff.

Join us for our Grown@Pope Harvesting Events! Volunteers will harvest with the hosts; Food Production and Donation Coordinator, Crop Production Assistants to harvest, collect, and weigh produce to be donated to food assistance providers across Montgomery County.

This project strengthens food security in the county and provides families with fresh produce grown on parkland. When you harvest with us, you'll have a good time and celebrate a good cause.

Instruction and tools will be provided. Most workdays will be scheduled in the mornings at Pope Farm Nursery, Monday through Friday for 2- or 4-hour shifts.

On days when there is minimal harvesting, volunteers will work on weeding or planting new food crops.

Join a Cleanup Hosted by Montgomery Parks

Organize Your Own Group Cleanup Project (Cleanup Leader Registration)

Scout troops
, corporate groups, student groups, and community organizations can schedule a private Park cleanup event. Work with your team to remove trash & litter from our Parks! We ask for a two weeks notice before your cleanup. This opportunity is eligible for SSL HOURS.

Group Leader requirements:
- Must be 18 years & up
- Must communicate all requirements and park policies with group members, and ensure fulfillment

If you and your group can meet these requirements, register here and we'll proceed with the next steps.

What we'll need:
1. Confirm cleanup details (qualified park or trail, date, time, # volunteers)
2. Let us know if you would like to have a Stream Strider help lead your cleanup. Stream Striders are trained local volunteer Leaders that kick off cleanup service projects with a short educational program on watersheds & litter.
3. Pick up your Cleanup Kit from Wheaton HQ or Black Hill Nature Center
4. Have a fun, safe cleanup!
5. Submit your cleanup results and your Volunteer Sign-in sheet to volunteercleanups@montgomeryparks.org

Special Event Monitor, Brookside Gardens

Brookside Gardens is a natural place for the community to have its special events, and the Facility Rental Program has several events booked throughout the year. Facility Rental Programs staff support the events by setting up and monitoring the events, but extra help is needed to make sure everything goes smoothly for our event guests!

Special Event Monitor Volunteers assist staff indoors and outdoors throughout the year, making the Gardens a great place for our guests to hold a special wedding, anniversary parties, remembrance ceremonies and other events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide Garden Staff presence in the gardens; and/or Visitor Center during the event.
2. Monitor event entrances/exits to maintain privacy.
3. Monitor the Visitor Center's entrances to allow only the event guests into the event.
4. Interact with event and non-event guests to answer questions about the Gardens.
5. Direct event guests to the proper garden event space.
6. Direct non-event guests temporarily to other garden areas.
