2020 Butterfly Exhibit Training (sign up for one session only!) - Brookside Gardens

Location:

Brookside Gardens Conservatory
1500 Glenallan Ave.
Wheaton, MD 20902

Description

Brookside Gardens hosts an incredible live butterfly exhibit each year in our Conservatory, mid-April through mid-September. North American, South American, African and Asian Butterfly species are featured in this dynamic exhibit and we are seeking volunteer Arrivals Agent and Flight Attendants to help our staff in the operation of the exhibit.

Arrivals Agents are stationed just outside the exhibit entrance and are responsible for greeting visitors and processing receipts, introducing visitors to the exhibit and informing visitors of the entry process. They will also show visitors butterfly life cycle activity on the plants in the Arrivals Area when present.

Flight Attendants are stationed in the exhibit where they help prevent butterflies from escaping and explain butterfly life cycles and behaviors to guests.

New volunteers need to sign up for only one on-site training date before they can begin.

Select the Schedule tab on the Job Details page to view and select a training date. All volunteers need to complete an online training course and will receive the link after they sign up. It is very helpful to complete the course before on-site training, but it can be done after if time does not allow.

After succesfully completing the on-site training, volunteers will be able to access the online calendar to schedule their shifts.

Morning shifts are 3.5 hours and afternoon shifts are 4 hours. Weekdays in July and August have only morning shifts.

Students ages 11-13 may volunteer, but only as a one-on-one team with a registered and trained parent, or adult guardian. The student and adult must each sign up independently so we have information on both individuals. Thank you.
