April is Autism Awareness Month!
Montgomery Parks will be hosting an Autism Awareness and Acceptance Event called "Light it up Blue" at the Agricultural History Farm Park to celebrate inclusion and diversity in our community. We are looking for volunteers to assist with various responsibilities including greeters, activity assistance, facepainting, set-up and cleanup for the event!Join us during this special event to help make it a success!SSL approved and food will be provided!Priority will be given to those that can work the full day, but there can be flexibility in schedule for volunteers - to be determined with supervisor prior to event.

Volunteers are needed at Montgomery Park's first All-Anglers Fishing Rodeo. Children of all abilities between the ages of 3-15 will be learning to fish at our accessible pond with a veteran by their side to highlight National Armed Forces Day! We will need assistance setting up and breaking down the site, checking-in participants and directing them to the various activities, teaching children how to fish, plus we will need accessibility and recycling monitors. Brookside Gardens hosts an incredible live butterfly exhibit each year in our Conservatory, mid-April through mid-September. North American, South American, African and Asian Butterfly species are featured in this dynamic exhibit and we are seeking volunteer Arrivals Agent and Flight Attendants to help our staff in the operation of the exhibit. Arrivals Agents are stationed just outside the exhibit entrance and are responsible for greeting visitors and processing receipts, introducing visitors to the exhibit and informing visitors of the entry process. They will also show visitors butterfly life cycle activity on the plants in the Arrivals Area when present.
Flight Attendants are stationed in the exhibit where they help prevent butterflies from escaping and explain butterfly life cycles and behaviors to guests.New volunteers need to sign up for only one on-site training date before they can begin.Select the Schedule tab on the Job Details page to view and select a training date. All volunteers need to complete an online training course and will receive the link after they sign up. It is very helpful to complete the course before on-site training, but it can be done after if time does not allow.After succesfully completing the on-site training, volunteers will be able to access the online calendar to schedule their shifts.
Morning shifts are 3.5 hours and afternoon shifts are 4 hours. Weekdays in July and August have only morning shifts.Students ages 11-13 may volunteer, but only as a one-on-one team with a registered and trained parent, or adult guardian. We often ask the scout to find a suitable project. Choose a park location that is convenient to you and explore the area to see what amenities you can help create or restore. Park staff will work with you to review your project proposal prior to approval. We are looking for scouts that are good communicators, stick to a schedule and are hardworkers!

This application is for Master Naturalist trainees currently enrolled in the 72-hour course with Montgomery Parks, Spring 2020.Before applying for this position, you must have interviewed with a Program Facilitator first.Registering as a Montgomery Parks volunteer is required before trainees can begin their volunteer service hours. After you apply, an (MN) will be placed in front of your last name in the database so that we can easily distinguish you from our other volunteers, and park staff will see that a Master Naturalist (MN) has applied for one of their positions!

Weekend Volunteer Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities. By participating in a volunteer group trail maintenance or construction project you will be helping improve the natural surface trail network for all to enjoy. The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 years old may volunteer if an adult participates with them. All Volunteer Trail Workdays are SSL approved.Volunteer Trail Workdays will return in March 2020.
