Every full weekend in February, Brookside Nature Center will be hosting Maple Sugaring tours indoors and outdoors in our own maple grove. Volunteers will be needed as Pancake Servers (for volunteers 15+ years old) on Saturdays and/or Sundays. These volunteers will warm up and serve pancakes with maple syrup to a hungry and happy crowd! (no cooking skills required).Volunteers need to help out for at least two, 3.5 hour shifts (the morning shift is 10am to 12:30pm, and the afternoon shift is 1pm to 3:30pm). This February, for our annual Maple Sugar Days, we are cooking down our maple sap, and need volunteers to help us out! Volunteers maintain the fire under our evaporator pan, so that our visitors can experience the maple sugaring process from start to finish.Volunteers will start the fire under the pan, keep the fire going, make sure every thing is safe, and assist the tour leaders as needed.We are looking for mature and responsible volunteers, preferably with fire monitoring experience, who also enjoy being outdoors!Volunteers under 18 must have a parent/guardian volunteer alongside who acts as the lead fire monitor.Shifts are 9am to noon, and noon to 3pm, on both Saturdays and Sundays.SSL Approved.

Thanks for thinking of Montgomery Parks as a place for your Eagle Scout project! Sometimes we have ideas for potential Eagle projects, but the number of Eagle candidates far outnumbers them. We often ask the scout to find a suitable project. Choose a park location that is convenient to you and explore the area to see what amenities you can help create or restore. Park staff will work with you to review your project proposal prior to approval. We are looking for scouts that are good communicators, stick to a schedule and are hardworkers!

Weekend Volunteer Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities. By participating in a volunteer group trail maintenance or construction project you will be helping improve the natural surface trail network for all to enjoy. The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 years old may volunteer if an adult participates with them. All Volunteer Trail Workdays are SSL approved.Volunteer Trail Workdays will return in March 2020.
