Volunteer Weekend Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities.The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 year old's may volunteer if an adult family member participates with them. If interested in training to become a Certified Weed Warrior, please visit this webpage for more information. **A variety of non-native, invasive plant species are present in Montgomery Parks. By their nature, these plants can take over an area quickly and threaten our native plant communities and the wildlife that depends on them.Join one of our Weed Warrior workday events to learn how you can help control non-native, invasive plants and preserve the health of our parks! Instruction and tools will be provided. Events are held in parks throughout the county and are led by volunteer Weed Warrior Supervisors and/or park staff. See event description for exact locations, times and meeting points.Each volunteer must register separately with their own account.Most events are for ages 16+. Help us celebrate International Mud Day at the Woodstock Equestrian Park in Beallsville. Festival guests will get to play in multiple mud pits, create mud art, play in our mud pie kitchen, and enjoy food and music. All of this is made possible by park staff and volunteers like you!Volunteering for this event allows you and those in your vehicle free admission to the event. This will be outside work, rain or shine. We are looking for outgoing and friendly people, and while all jobs are not physically demanding, they all do require the ability to work on uneven ground.This is approved for SSL hours. **Severe weather date of Sunday, June 15. Montgomery Park's Grown@Pope program strengthens food security in the county and provides families with fresh produce grown on parkland. Grown@Pope Workdays are for individuals or groups that would like to come in for 1 to 3 days this season to help with daily tasks. Workday dates and times will be arranged with the program manager, after you apply. If you're interested in commiting more time to this program, please consider signing up for the Crop Production Aide position instead!Workdays are scheduled for 2-to-4-hour shift during the week, between the hours of 8am and 2pm (but usually in the morning). Volunteers will assist with planting summer crops and maintaining the garden. They will work alongside staff to cultivate crops to be donated to food assistance providers across Montgomery County. The work includes clearing debris from the garden, planting seeds as needed, monitoring crops upon emergence, pruning and thinning crop plants as needed, rotation (turning) of larger crops, adding mulch and compost to garden beds and harvesting crops when they are ready to go! Instruction and tools will be provided.For Individuals, the program manager will send you a list of dates and times to choose from. Families are welcome, but children 15 and under must be supervised by their 18 years+ guardian on a one-to-one ratio. You must be 16 or older to volunteer on your own. SSL Approved!For Groups, this is a great opportunity for team building and learning new skills with your friends, co-workers or any other type of group. Montgomery Parks Agricultural History Farm Park provides a variety of historic, as well as present day, farm education programs for the public. A variety of animals live on the Farm to support the interpretive programs and enhance the visitor experience. These may include goats, pigs, chickens, and ducks. Each of these animals has special needs and is cared for daily through the support of trained Farm Animal Caretaker volunteers. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Examples of important duties, include:Weekly:Change the bedding of all animals.Ensure biosecurity of stalls and animal housing areas.Maintain animal accountability records.Daily:Feed and water animals.Clean troughs and water buckets.Rake barn, pasture, and stall areas.IMPORTANT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:Ability to:Treat animals with appropriate care and respect.Work comfortably with many different types of farm animals.Communicate and work well with Park Staff and Farm visitors.To learn more about the animals and share this knowledge with the public.Work independently.Follow directions with accuracy and attention to detail.ORIENTATION AND TRAINING:Orientation and Training will be provided by supervisor and/or additional staff, including safety, call-in policy, site orientation and introduction to other staff and volunteers. Will include training on animal care, emergency procedures, customer relations and other topics as required.Training provided for equipment; must demonstrate proficiency.AUTHORITY:Volunteers will have access to secure animal pens and feed. Are you a group leader looking to do some Team Building, have your group give back to the environment, or just them get out in the parks? We can help you with that! Forms are provided at the cleanup.- This opportunity is not eligible for court-ordered service.- To add volunteers to a family group send us an email.- Wear clothes that can get dirty and shoes that can potentially get wet.
