Volunteer Weekend Trail Workday projects are a great way to support one of Montgomery Parks most popular facilities.The minimum age to volunteer is 15 years old, however 13 & 14 year old's may volunteer if an adult family member participates with them. If interested in training to become a Certified Weed Warrior, please visit this webpage for more information. **A variety of non-native, invasive plant species are present in Montgomery Parks. By their nature, these plants can take over an area quickly and threaten our native plant communities and the wildlife that depends on them.Join one of our Weed Warrior workday events to learn how you can help control non-native, invasive plants and preserve the health of our parks! Instruction and tools will be provided. Events are held in parks throughout the county and are led by volunteer Weed Warrior Supervisors and/or park staff. See event description for exact locations, times and meeting points.Each volunteer must register separately with their own account.Most events are for ages 16+. Montgomery Park's Grown@Pope program strengthens food security in the county and provides families with fresh produce grown on parkland. Grown@Pope Workdays are for individuals or groups that would like to come in for 1 to 3 days this season to help with daily tasks. Workday dates and times will be arranged with the program manager, after you apply. If you're interested in commiting more time to this program, please consider signing up for the Crop Production Aide position instead!Workdays are scheduled for 2-to-4-hour shift during the week, between the hours of 8am and 2pm (but usually in the morning). Volunteers will assist with planting summer crops and maintaining the garden. They will work alongside staff to cultivate crops to be donated to food assistance providers across Montgomery County. The work includes clearing debris from the garden, planting seeds as needed, monitoring crops upon emergence, pruning and thinning crop plants as needed, rotation (turning) of larger crops, adding mulch and compost to garden beds and harvesting crops when they are ready to go! Instruction and tools will be provided.For Individuals, the program manager will send you a list of dates and times to choose from. Families are welcome, but children 15 and under must be supervised by their 18 years+ guardian on a one-to-one ratio. You must be 16 or older to volunteer on your own. SSL Approved!For Groups, this is a great opportunity for team building and learning new skills with your friends, co-workers or any other type of group. Volunteers are needed at Montgomery County's Annual "Active Aging Week Kick-Off Event", where residents 55 years old or better can enjoy a day at the North Potomac Community Center doing all sorts of fun activities!There are two shifts:7:45 AM- 12 PM: Volunteers will help with set up including moving tables and chairs, setting up signage, parking, assisting with checking-in guests, handing out Fit Kits, acting as Walk Guides, acting as Activity Assistants / Room Monitors, taking regular attendance during sessions11:30 AM - 2:45 PM: Volunteers will help with lunch support, acting as Walk Guides, breaking down/cleaning, including moving tables and chairs.Volunteers who speak Mandarin or Spanish are encouraged to sign-up!Volunteers will mostly be working indoors. Please dress for comfort. A volunteer tee shirt will be provided. Refreshments will be available. Lunch will be available for full-day volunteers.Volunteers are permitted to work the morning shift and participate in afternoon activities. Are you a group leader looking to do some Team Building, have your group give back to the environment, or just them get out in the parks? We can help you with that! We are always looking from groups like yours to help us with several types of projects in the parks, including Weed Warrioring (removing bad plants so good plants can thrive); Park Cleanups; Nature Center Projects (can including gardening/mulching/restoring play areas/trails/etc.); Gardening; helping New Trees Survive; Spreading Wood Fiber at Plagrounds and many more.Contact our office by applying to this job, emailing parksvolunteers@montgomeryparks.org, or just give us a call at 301-495-2474.We will need to know some basic information to set you up with the right project, including:- Size and ages of group- When and Where would be convenient for your group- Any restrictions (need bathrooms, running water on site)- Group Leader contact information (and anyone who needs to be copied on any correspondence.Thanks - we look forward to working with your group on setting up a great project in the Parks!When applying, choose the GROUP application with the Leader Contact information. Little Bennett Campground is hosting a spooky Haunted Trail and Magic Pumpkin Patch this Fall, and needs volunteers to help it be the spookiest place in the woods!
We have 4 ways you can help us! See choices below, and choose the shift(s) that work best for you. 1. Decorate Camp Store, Booth & Trail (Sept. 22, 23, 24, Mon./Tues./Weds.) (3-6pm.) Help us decorate for Halloween in the building, around the campground, and on the haunted trail.2. Haunted Trail Set Up (Sept. 30, October 1 & 2 Tues./Weds./Thurs.) (3-6pm.)Help us set up the stations on the haunted trail. Could include carrying supplies, setting up tents, hanging props in trees, and staging scenes.

Help us celebrate Montgomery County's rich farming heritage at one of the prettiest places in Montgomery Parks, the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood! Visitors to the festival will get to experience what the crafts, games, food and activities were like on a farm from years ago, with help from park staff and volunteers like you! Volunteers will help their assigned station leader in showing our guests how to make candles, wash laundry, create tin art and many more fun things!Training, a delicious lunch, t-shirt and breaks will be provided. This will be outside work, rain or shine (tents will be provided). We are looking for outgoing and friendly people, and while all jobs are not physically demanding, they all do require the ability to work on uneven ground.**THIS IS Student Service Learning APPROVED!** Sign-up by clicking on Job Details, then the "Schedule" Tab - someone will be back to you with more details after we see your application. **Please, only apply if you can be there for the whole 6.5 hour shift!**Children that are 12 or 13 can only volunteer if a parent is also registered as a volunteer!

Assist in the stewardship of the buildings and grounds of Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park, a 200 year old site with 80 acres of history. Participate as a team in trail cleanup efforts of the Underground Railroad Experience Trail and assist in the upkeep of the historic buildings and grounds. Great for Student Service Learning opportunities!
