Program Access, which provides inclusion services for individuals with disabilities throughout Montgomery Parks, is looking for volunteers to assist us with Meaningful Day programs. Volunteer at Brookside Gardens' annual Garden of Lights display. The walk-through display features lighting installations throughout the Gardens. Volunteers will assist at the Information Desk within our Visitor Center in an indoor environment. We are seeking individuals who are friendly and personable, with a commitment to ensuring guests have an exceptional experience during their visit. Comprehensive training will be provided, and scheduling will be coordinated to facilitate individual training sessions with staff. Upon completion of training, volunteers will have access to an online calendar system to select their shifts. A minimum commitment of three shifts during the event is required of all volunteers.The exhibit is scheduled from November 20 to January 3 and operates every evening, except for closures on November 23-26, December 24-25, and January 1. Evening shifts are from 4:30pm to 9:00pm, Monday through Sunday.

All Aboard! Brookside Gardens is seeking volunteers for the Garden Railway exhibit in the Conservatory. We're looking for individuals who enjoy engaging with a diverse group of visitors to enhance their experience. The exhibit is scheduled from November 28 to January 3 and operates every day, except for closures on December 24-25 and January 1.Shifts are from 10am to 1pm and 1 to 4pm. A minimum commitment of two shifts during the event is required of all volunteers.

Gardener Assistants support an assigned Horticulturist at Brookside Gardens to help maintain a wide variety of ornamental plants, including weeding, pruning, watering, grooming, staking, deadheading, preparing garden beds, mulching, and general clean-up.This work, while sometimes physically demanding, provides volunteers the opportunity to work with professional horticulture staff, spend time outdoors, and enhance their own knowledge of plants and gardening techniques.

Help Brookside Nature Center with site projects!
On Groundskeeping Workdays, volunteers help keep the facilities and grounds looking well-kept and inviting by working on a variety of outdoor tasks including light trail maintenance, cleaning up trash, pruning trees and shrubs, removing invasive plants, garden work, and mulching.
Brief on-the-job orientation and training provided by Nature Facility staff at start of shift.

Friendly helpers are needed at our Halloween Eye Spy Train ride in Wheaton Regional Park this October!Volunteers will help pass out and collect pencils for our guests' Eye Spy Cards, before and after they ride the train, or assist with art and craft activities in the party room.Family-friendly (NOT SCARY) costumes are required!The train will be operating on Saturdays and Sundays in October. There will be two shifts each day: 9:15am-1:00pm or 1:00 -4:45pm.**Please only sign up for one shift per day!**Volunteers need to be 14 and older (no exceptions!).This activity is outdoors, and Student Service Learning approved. Montgomery Parks has many parks and trails that are accessible and provide beneficial exercise to walkers of all fitness levels. We are seeking volunteers to host a Seniors' walking club. In cooperation with Montgomery Parks staff, Walking Club Coordinators may:1. Explore and develop the walking routes for participating members throughout Montgomery Parks.2. Assist with the development of the marketing plan and promotion of walking events.3. Assist in promoting the club to appropriate senior groups.4. Attend most group walks.5. Assist in recruiting other volunteers to lead walks.6. Keep open communication with staff about program developments and updates.7. Participate in events and other related walking programs.8. Report volunteer hours on at least a quarterly basis throughout the year.

By their nature, these plants can take over an area quickly and threaten our native plant communities and the wildlife that depends on them.Join one of our Weed Warrior workday events to learn how you can help control non-native, invasive plants and preserve the health of our parks! Instruction and tools will be provided. Events are held in parks throughout the county and are led by volunteer Weed Warrior Supervisors and/or park staff.
