Description

Join Montgomery Parks' Adaptive Kayaking Clinics as a Support Paddler and assist participants with disabilities experience the joy of kayaking.

Support Paddlers will assist with pulling out equipment (including kayaks, paddles, and life vests), helping participants get in and out of boats, and providing tailored support to meet your assigned participant's needs. We are seeking experienced kayakers who can instruct basic skills on the water (ACA Instructor Certifications are preferred).

All-Anglers Fishing Rodeo

Description

The All-Anglers Fishing Rodeo is an event where kids of all ability levels can learn how to fish with your help!

Program Access, which provides inclusion services for individuals with disabilities throughout Montgomery Parks, is looking for volunteers to assist us with:


  • Setting up and breaking down the outdoor site around the pond including chairs, tables, check in area, and event sign placements.

  • Greeting participants and directing them to the various activities including check in, fishing gear, sensory retreat area, parking, and award ceremony.

  • Helping teach fishing skills.

  • Assisting with baiting hooks with live worms and unhooking fish from rod.

  • Count and monitor fish count/weight for each participant or your assigned participant(s).s.



IMPORTANT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Fishing experience.

  • Knowledge of fishing equipment such as rods, reels, bait, fish scale, and hooks.

  • Comfortable touching worms and fish.

  • Comfortable interacting with children.

  • Comfortable interacting with people with disabilities.


Minimum Age Requirement: 16+; Children under 16 can only volunteer if a parent/guardian is also registered as a volunteer! This is SSL-hour approved!



ORIENTATION AND TRAINING:
A detailed welcome letter will be emailed up to 2 weeks before the event. An in-person briefing to review expectations will be conducted the morning of the event.

Thanks for thinking of Montgomery Parks as a place for your Eagle Scout project!

We often have ideas for potential Eagle projects, but the number of Eagle Scout candidates far outnumbers them. We often require the scout to seek out a suitable project and suggest it to us.

Choose a park location that is convenient to you and explore the area to see which amenities you can help create or restore. Park staff will work with you to review your project proposal prior to approval.

We are looking for scouts that are good communicators, can stick to a schedule and are hard workers!
